Ah! Back in our "Casita"! No, no...though we may insert the occasional Mexican word or phrase in the blog commentary out of habit, it does not mean we are heading south. This trip, our direction is east...... to "The Heartland".
Our planned arrival date in Aberdeen, South Dakota is July 3. JUST in time to head to Mina Lake to celebrate the Fourth of July with Joe, Kristin, Jocelyn, Grandma Colleen and Jark aunties, uncles and cousins!
Our first leg of the journey took us along the Columbia River up the Gorge to Moses Lake.
Seems like when we travel the road, we're in a geology classroom on wheels! An immense plateau was created in the northwest by a gargantuan flow of lava during a time of intense volcanic activity oh so long ago. Over time, the push of geologic plates created upheavals and the erosion due to the flow of mighty Columbia River carved the Gorge. Photos on this page give you an idea!
This is a windy place! The power people are taking advantage of the wind to generate needed electricity with modern-day windmills.....kind of spooky looking structures when they are seen close up!
We enjoyed a GREAT evening with Suci (our niece), Holly and Hayden in Moses Lake! Jamie was down in Texas, so we missed him.
Next destination: Glacier National Park!
